Southwark College welcomed students, staff and community partners for its NCG Guarantee Mental Fitness Conference, a dedicated day focused on promoting wellbeing, resilience and healthy lifestyle choices. Through interactive workshops, fitness activities and support services, students were encouraged to explore practical ways to strengthen their mental and physical wellbeing.
The conference brought together a range of expert organisations, giving students access to valuable information, guidance and resources. Health professionals from the NHS delivered workshops on sickle cell awareness, while specialists from Change Grow Live led discussions on vaping and making informed choices about health and wellbeing.
Students also took part in resilience and stress-management sessions designed to support them during exams and beyond. Fitness coaches from Energie Fitness shared practical techniques for managing stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, while youth mentors from Fight4Change used boxing and mindset exercises to help students build confidence, motivation and resilience.
Alongside the workshops, the College atrium was transformed into a vibrant wellbeing hub. The Southwark College Health Hub and PureGym provided fitness challenges and advice on staying active, while additional stalls offered information and support on a range of wellbeing topics. Students also enjoyed free samples from natural energy drink company Tenzing, a student-led healthy bake sale and information from the Students' Union about the support available to learners experiencing financial difficulties.
The day also included opportunities for students to relax, connect with their peers and try something new. Activities included a Nintendo Switch gaming zone, virtual reality experiences and American football sessions delivered by the South London Renegades, helping to create a fun and inclusive atmosphere across the College.
More than just a one-day event, the Mental Fitness Conference reflected Southwark College's ongoing commitment to supporting the whole student experience. By connecting learners with local organisations, practical wellbeing strategies and support networks, the conference encouraged students to prioritise their wellbeing and build the confidence and resilience needed to succeed both in education and in life.
The event highlighted the power of partnership in supporting student wellbeing and demonstrated Southwark College's commitment to helping every learner thrive, both inside and outside the classroom.
