Southwark College students showcased their talent with an end-of-year live music performance at The Fox & Firkin in Lewisham. As part of Southwark College's 2023 Creative Summer Showcase, the event was student-led and featured learners from the Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production course and the Level 3 UAL Diploma in Music Performance and Production course.

The music show included songs from well-known artists from the late 1990s, early 2000s and 2010s and an original piece composed by the students. The original songs showcased their skills across different music genres like alternative rock, funk & acid jazz, ragga, and soul music, demonstrating their creative prowess.

The original pieces were an excellent opportunity for young music students to sing their songs and highlight their talent as singer-songwriters, along with their understanding of lyrics and melodies, helping them to develop their style and build on their confidence to perform in front of an audience.

Sebastian Jardines, a Music Performance and Production student, said: "I enjoyed performing at this gig; this gave me the confidence to play a musical instrument in front of an audience and hone my skills as a musician so that one day I can perform again on a grander stage in front of a bigger audience and pursue my career goals in the music industry."

The audience was impressed with the students' singing and musical abilities, giving them confidence and setting them on a path towards future success in the music industry.

Jane Button, Principal of Southwark College, said: "This year's end-of-year music show at the Fox & Firkin was a testament to our students' talent and abilities. It was impressive to hear them perform their creations live and appreciate the audience's response.

"At Southwark College, we work with local businesses to create opportunities for all our students to experience first-hand the requirements in their chosen fields to help them prepare for their future careers. All the students received positive feedback from the teaching team and technicians on their event management skills, technical knowledge, motivation and teamwork skills. We are very proud of them and look forward to seeing them achieve greatness in their careers in the music industry."

Jon Fell, Head of Creative Arts at Southwark College, said: "We are so proud of the creativity, talent and professionalism displayed by our students in organising, promoting, and performing a fantastic end-of-year show. They have so much talent to offer to the music business, and we look forward to following their careers as they leave the College and go on to greater things!"

The Fox & Firkin is located in Lewisham and offers musical performances showcasing a diverse mix of sounds.
