Southwark College recently welcomed students and guests to its annual Higher Education and Careers Fair. The event offered a dynamic and informative experience for students exploring their next steps in education and employment.

Over 20 universities were in attendance, including institutions such as Liverpool, Cardiff, Swansea, UAL, Coventry, City, and St George’s, giving students direct access to course information, application guidance, and insights into student life.

Representatives engaged with attendees throughout the day, answering questions and offering tailored advice based on individual interests and goals. The fair featured a series of informative talks that drew strong interest from students:

Why Choose University? explored the benefits of higher education and how it can shape future opportunities.

Student Finance demystified funding options, loans, and budgeting tips for prospective applicants.

Degree Apprenticeships highlighted alternative routes to gaining qualifications while earning and gaining work experience.

The event catered to both college leavers and mature applicants, creating an inclusive space for all students to explore pathways into higher education, apprenticeships, and careers.

Current student, Atina Zamurca said: “This event is important beacuse it gives you an insight into all of the different courses that are available and what the different universities offer.”

Staff praised the enthusiasm and engagement shown by students, many of whom left the fair feeling more confident and informed about their future choices. The fair reinforced Southwark College’s commitment to supporting students at every stage of their journey, empowering them to make decisions that align with their ambitions.

Faye Russell from Goldsmiths University said: “Coming to a HE events at college are important as it gives students to speak to several universities in one place to find out what is out there and what they offer. No two universities are the same, so it is important to look at the literature, speak to their representatives, find out about open days and what is available.”

Southwark College continues to offer guidance and support for students considering higher education. For more information or to speak with a careers advisor, visit southwark.ac.uk/student-services/careers
