Southwark College hosted its annual Student Awards on 18 June 2024, to celebrate the achievements of adult learners throughout the year.

This year’s awards students took place at the College’s own venue in the heart of the borough in front of an invited audience of family, faculty staff and employer partners, all gathering to celebrate this important milestone in the academic year.

The event celebrated achievement in a number of categories, including academic achievement, community service, leadership and resilience, as well as the dedication of adult learners who have returned to study to gain the qualifications they need to get ahead in their career.

Southwark College Principal, Jane Button, began the event with a warm welcome and praised the students for their hard work throughout the academic year. Jane said: “As you step into the next chapter of your lives, remember that Southwark College will always be a place you can return to with pride. We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and look forward with great anticipation to the future that lies ahead for each of you.”

Author Ore Ogungbayi also featured during the ceremony, giving a speech, which inspired and motivated guests through sharing her life experiences and emphasising the importance of being unique and following one’s passion.
