Southwark College recently welcomed Neil Coyle, Member of Parliament for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, for a visit focused on student experience, college facilities and future investment in further education.
The visit began with a meeting with the principalship team, where the College's priorities and the role of further education in supporting local students and communities were discussed. A key focus was the Further Education College Condition Allocation funding programme, which supports the repair, maintenance and improvement of college buildings.
Discussions explored how investment in facilities can help Southwark College maintain safe, modern and fit-for-purpose learning environments, while responding to growing demand and ensuring students have access to high-quality spaces that support their learning and future career aspirations.
During the visit, the MP also met with Student Union representatives, giving students the opportunity to share their perspectives and raise issues that matter most to them. The conversation highlighted the importance of student voice in shaping the College experience and informing discussions about future opportunities for young people and the wider community.
The visit concluded with a tour of the College’s teaching spaces and facilities, providing further insight into how investment in infrastructure supports learning, wellbeing and student success.

As the MP for the area, I’m proud that a share of the over £7 million from the Government is being directed into modern facilities, equipment and resources that will directly benefit students across our community. This funding will help ensure young people have access to the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, whether that’s in further education or the workplace.”
The visit provided an opportunity for Southwark College to showcase its facilities, discuss the needs of its learners and highlight the role of further education in supporting local communities.
