Southwark College offers a range of free Level 3 courses for adults under the new government-supported Lifetime Skills Guarantee. The scheme provides adults with the opportunity to expand their skill set, upskill or change career.

This initiative, backed by the National Skills Fund is designed to create new job prospects for those looking to further their career, change sectors, or boost their expertise. To access the Lifetime Skills Guarantee scheme, adults must be 24 and over, reside in England, and not have a Level 3 qualification in any field.

Those who qualify for the scheme can study a Level 3 qualification in AAT accredited Bookkeeping, Diploma for IT users, and Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring, with the courses starting this summer term.

Annette Cast, Principal at Southwark College, said: “The Lifetime Skills Guarantee scheme presents an unmissable opportunity for adult learners to gain in-demand skills and pave the way to further their job opportunities.

“Unemployment in the UK has risen significantly during the coronavirus pandemic; therefore, it is crucial that Southwark College participates in this initiative to support London’s economic recovery and boost our learners’ employability by providing the knowledge, skills and expertise they need to progress in their career.”

The scheme also supports adults who are unemployed or receiving Universal Credit, to allow them to study for up to 12 weeks with support from their financial aid and access more training options to increase their chances of finding permanent work under a government safety net.

Southwark College welcomes thousands of adult learners every year and offers a dedicated service in its Employability Hub to support students with CV writing, access job vacancies with the college’s employer partners, and develop effective interview techniques.
