Southwark College Nextgen Games Design students publish their first publicly available game, Paper Odyssey on Steam.
Five 16-18-year-olds have become the first Southwark College students to publish their game, Paper Odyssey on Steam, the world's largest platform for PC games.
Produced as part of the Nextgen Games Design course, it will launch at 12pm on Wednesday 21 January live on Steam at a launch event held at the College’s own Digital Hub.
Publishing a game on Steam is a full production process. It requires a playable build to a public standard and completion of release tasks, including game design and programming, asset creation, playtesting, bug fixing, performance checks and packaging for launch. It also demands teamwork, time management and consistent iteration. The same delivery pressures expected in industry.
Nextgen Games Design supports students to develop technical capability and professional behaviour, producing portfolio-ready work aligned with progression into higher education and careers in the games and creative industries.
Gaining positive reviews by gamers on pre-release, the game is described as the following:
"You are nothing more than a crumpled paper ball—discarded, forgotten, and left to rot in the corners of a vast paper factory. But you're not ready to be recycled just yet. Roll, bounce, and dodge your way past grinding machines, conveyor belts, and shredders as you make your daring escape".
Paper Odyssey will be available to play on Steam on the following link Paper Odyssey on Steam or to download (for free) on itch.io Paper Odyssey by Team Paper’.
