Southwark College hosted a Careers Fair, bringing together students and employers to explore post-college opportunities. The event, held at the College's campus in SE1, welcomed employers from various sectors, including The Royal Opera House, NHS Foundation Trust, Metropolitan Police Service, Fire Service and Fire Cadets, The Old Vic, Project Trust and Prince’s Trust, amongst others.

The Careers Fair attracted a large and enthusiastic turnout of students and provided valuable opportunities for them to explore potential career paths and engage with industry professionals. The event’s highlight was the visit of Peter Schofield, the newly elected Permanent Secretary for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Mr Schofield attended a class for an accelerated programme for job seekers looking to join the NHS workforce, where the students shared their experiences and positive feedback about their time at the College and their concerns about accessing employment opportunities. The visit concluded with a roundtable led by the College's Principal, which allowed employers to ask questions and discuss essential employment matters and the skills and knowledge required for the future workforce.

Throughout the day, students engaged with a range of exhibitors and gained insights into various career paths and job opportunities across multiple sectors. They also attended workshops to get tips and guidance on working for a music company, find job opportunities and apprenticeships with Southwark Council and the NHS, and volunteering abroad.

The event ended with an employer networking session on the College's rooftop, where employers and faculty members engaged in discussions on collaborative initiatives to enhance students' educational experiences and prospects, including integrating real-world projects and establishing mentorship programmes to prepare students for success in today's competitive job market.

Southwark College hosts regular events for employers to provide them with opportunities to engage with the College to support learners by offering tailored work experience placements and gain insights into various industries.
