Adult Awards Group Shot

Southwark College came together to honour the outstanding accomplishments of the College’s adult learners at the annual Student Awards.

This year’s celebration was held at the College’s atrium, where the students, proud family members, staff and employer partners gathered to mark this special occasion in the academic calendar.

The awards recognised excellence across a range of categories, including academic success, community contributions, leadership, and personal resilience. The ceremony also paid tribute to the commitment of adult learners who have returned to education to gain new skills and qualifications to progress in their careers.

Southwark College Principal Jane Button opened the event with a warm welcome and commended students for their determination and achievements over the past year. “All our students have shown what can be achieved through determination, perseverance, and dedication. The Student Awards Ceremony celebrates our students’ achievements, progress, hard work, and commitment to their studies, preparing them for the fantastic opportunities Southwark and London have to offer.

“Our award winners have either excelled in their chosen fields, made successful transitions back into employment, changed sectors, or sought to advance their careers. Many are now taking exciting steps toward further opportunities in their industry or pursuing pathways in higher education.”

The ceremony also featured a keynote address from ITV News presenter, Sameena Ali-Khan, who captivated the audience with stories from her own journey, encouraging learners to embrace their individuality and pursue their ambitions with confidence. Sameena commented: “It has been one of the most emotional yet most uplifting evenings I've experienced the entire year and it's really lovely to have heard all the stories and to have met the people who've achieved so much in their academic world but actually in real life as well.

The Employer of the Year was awarded to Hotpoint at the event, in recognition of their outstanding support for Southwark College students. Their commitment to providing meaningful opportunities and championing adult education has made a real difference to our students’ development and confidence.
