This qualification is designed to support students who wish to study computing as a one-year full-time course leading to the Extended Diploma in Year 2. The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Computing is equivalent in size to three A Levels and would normally be the only qualification in a learner's study programme. It is designed to be offered to 16-18 learners who are interested in progressing to further study in higher education computing-related disciplines.

Entry Requirements
- GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths (Grades A-C or minimum Grade 4). - Successful completion of a substantial level 2 qualification along with 5 GCSEs at grades A-C or 4-9 plus an initial assessment that indicates an appropriate level of English and mathematical ability and a satisfactory reference.
Assessment Method
Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector. There are three main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of: external internal and synoptic. The styles of external assessment used for qualifications in the computing suite are: - examinations: all students take the same assessment at the same time normally with a written outcome - set tasks: students take the assessment during a defined window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a vocational task.
Aims of the course
The qualification provides students with a broad base of knowledge of the computing sector. The optional units enable students to explore their own choice of areas for further study. Students could also progress to employment in the computing sector. They give students the knowledge understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment and University.
Progression Opportunities
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression on to a degree level course in computer science and digital technology. You will also be provided with support with the process of your UCAS application and your tutors will provide you with a reference.
