"The Digital Media course pushed my skills in media that I’d never discovered before like photoshoot, indesign, audition and premiere pro. By using these softwares consistently, my work began to evolve from traditional to modern."
Studying Digital Media at Lewisham Southwark College has enabled Nicole Harrison to progress on to a degree at University of the Arts London (UAL) and discover her fascination with photography.
She explains: “At secondary school I did fine art for one of my GCSEs, which enhanced my research skills and enabled me to talk about the methodologies I used to compose my own pieces. But then I chose a Digital Media course at Lewisham Southwark College which started me on a different path.”
At the end of her two-year course, Nicole had a much clearer idea of herself as an artist, and gained a place at UAL – one of the world’s leading universities for art and design – to study for a BA in Illustration and Visual Media.
She says: “The course was very broad, and it took me a while to discover what medium I wanted to specialise in. Throughout my three-years at university I visited the different departments to see what suited me best. For some reason the darkroom was where I felt most comfortable – it is a loose medium to work with, where inks and paint on paper are replace with chemicals reacting with photography paper.
Nicole says that the Art and Design tutors and facilities at Lewisham Southwark College first sparked her interest in exploring different media.
