Supported Learning students took part in a six-week workshop led by Young Vic actors to step out of their comfort zone and learn more about work and career opportunities in the performing arts sector.

This initiative set up by Southwark College in partnership with the Young Vic aims to help neurodivergent learners develop their social communication skills and build their confidence while preparing them for the world of work.

Principal, Annette Cast said: “Our partnership with the Young Vic is a wonderful example of the relationships Southwark College has with local employers and the opportunities available to our pupils. We are looking forward to the future of this partnership and to continue developing links within our community to support our learners make a significant connection with potential employers.”

Students will also have the opportunity to be mentored by Young Vic staff to gain an insight into the performing arts industry, increase their employability and learn about the different career paths available in the sector.

Lorna McGinty from the Young Vic commented: "We are excited to take part in this collaboration and connect with our local college. This affiliation is a great way for us to show off the industry we love and share insider tips to help aspiring professionals enter this field.”

Through strategic partnerships with a variety of employers, students at Southwark College can raise their employment prospects by boosting their qualifications and transferable skills and benefit from guest talks, workshops and visits to relevant organisations.
