You will develop important transferable skills such as working with others and research skills. You will also be able to develop your interest in science through topics such as measuring waves and investigating a crime scene. Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Applied Science. This is a graded qualification and you will be awarded a grade ranging from Pass (PP) to Distinction (DD).

4 GCSEs at grade E (2/3) or above including Science, English and Maths, usually with functional skills at Entry Level 3.
You should also demonstrate an interest in science.
All units are internally assessed. You will be assessed using a variety of methods such as: carrying out practical tasks written assignments presenting information that you have gathered keeping working logbooks, records and reflective journals taking part in oral or written presentations taking part in role play, interviews and other activities.
Aims of the course
The aims of this course are to give you the core skills such as being organised that you will need to progress within your chosen field. You will also study sector units which will give you the opportunity to take the skills you've built up in the core units and showcase what you know and understand about the science sector.
Upon completing your Level 1 Introductory qualification you will have a wide choice of progression routes available including further learning, apprenticeships and employment. Many learners will progress onto Level 2 Technical qualifications designed around giving learners the skills they will need to progress in their career. BTEC Level 2 Technical courses could be an ideal progression route for Level 1 learners.
The course will be delivered in the classroom and in our specialised science laboratories.
With further study this course will allow you to access further Science qualifications and lead ultimately to careers within any of the science fields.
You could work in a laboratory setting in forensic Science, food technology or the biomedical field for example.
