ESOL, English & Maths

Course levels range from pre-entry to Entry 2/3 and are suitable for adults who need to develop their English language skills. You will study speaking and listening, reading, and writing as well as pronunciation, spelling and grammar. You will also learn how to apply your English in a range of contexts.

Entry Requirements

You will be assessed in English and have an interview with a teacher to determine which level of course is right for you.

    Assessment Method

    At the end of each 18 week semester there are assessments in speaking & listening, reading and writing. The type of assessment varies according to the level of the course. Most courses include final exams in the summer term in English.

    Aims of the course

    All courses aim to prepare students to progress in their chosen field by improving their language skills. This could be for further study, improving career prospects or seeking work.

    Progression Opportunities

    Depending on the qualifications achieved during the year, students can progress to higher levels of English, into vocational and academic courses, work, or an apprenticeship.

    Facilities

    Students learn in the classroom for most of the time and sessions include group work, pair work and individual study. Students will be able to access college facilities such as the Learning Centre and ICT equipment.

    Career Options

    Students may progress to further study in the college onto higher level English classes or into vocational areas or into work.
