This qualification is ideal for individuals who have management responsibilities but no formal training and are serious about developing their abilities. The course particularly supports practising team leaders seeking to move up to the next level of management and managers who need to lead people though organisational change budget cuts or other pressures.

    Entry Requirements

    Age 19+ Either GCSE English grade 4 or above Functional Skills English L2 or successful completion of a Level 2 qualification in a related subject - plus an initial assessment that indicates an appropriate level of English ability and satisfactory reference. Applicants aspiring to progress into supervisory/managerial positions at work will also be considered following an interview and written assessment.

    Assessment Method

    Learners are assessed through activities that are internally set by tutors. These include: - role play - practical demonstration - report writing - group discussion - essay - written question/answer and controlled assessments.

    Aims of the course

    The aims of the course are for learners to: - gain a range of key management skills and put them into practice in their own role at work - build their leadership capabilities - motivate and engage teams manage relationships confidently at work - develop their leadership and management skills using knowledge values and motivations gained from the course.

    Progression Opportunities

    Upon successful completion of this course learners will be able to progress to ILM Level 4 Award Certificate or Diploma in Leadership and Management or seek managerial duties with existing employer or apply for supervisory/managerial positions elsewhere.


    Lessons are scheduled in a classroom with computers. Learners will have structured learning plus self-study project work and assignments. There is also a range of materials available to support ILM qualifications through the online portal Walled Garden and the ILM website.

    Career Options

    Learners could choose to progress onto Supervisory/ Managerial posts in Retail and Office administration. All ILM learners receive a minimum of 12 months membership of the Institute of Leadership & Management bringing access to a wealth of resources to support their leadership development.
