Southwark College is governed by a Corporation, and led by the Interim Principal, Alan Birks. 

A Brief Summary of the Role & Responsibilities

The role of the Corporation is set out in the Instruments and Articles of Government Order 2007.  In summary they are responsible -

  • at a strategic level for the determination of the educational character and mission of the College and for the oversight of its activities;

  • on financial matters for the effective and efficient use of resources, the solvency of the College and the Corporation and for safeguarding their assets; and for approving the annual estimates of income and expenditure; and

  • on staff matters for the appointment, grading, suspension, dismissal and determination of pay of the holders of senior posts and the Clerk; and for setting a framework for the pay and conditions of service of all other staff.

Membership of the Corporation

Southwark College Further Education Corporation is made up of people who represent a range of groups and interests. The Corporation is made up of 18 Members. Some of whom are from local businesses, some are from community or voluntary groups/ organizations or from the local council. There are also staff and students from the College.
