Work in the brand new Shard!

The Shard is currently being built above London Bridge station and will be the tallest building in Western Europe. The mixed use development will have many different types of tenants on the different floors, with job opportunities in a number of different trades and sectors. Hotel front desk, catering managers, health and beauty roles, viewing gallery assistants, office roles, cleaning and security jobs and technical building services roles will all be available from 2012.

To give local people an edge in getting jobs in the new building, Southwark Council and the developer of the Shard, Sellar, have invested in new training facilities at Southwark College and are working with tenants of the building to create new courses and training opportunities to match the job opportunities coming to the building.

Southwark College believes in finding new and exciting ways to learn and has a strong belief that training should link to real jobs and the skills that employers need. The College has created dynamic new “real work environments” where you learn a skill in a setting more like work than the classroom.

You can train to be a fitness instructor, beautician, florist, construction manager, retail manager and more at our campuses in Waterloo or Bermondsey, and get hands on experience of your new skills by serving customers in the real world.

If you are a local resident and would like to find out more about the courses available, and experience the new real work environments, please visit www.southwark.ac.uk
