Cambridge Exam Preparation Courses

Preparation for Cambridge Examination: First Certificate in English (FCE), Cambridge Advanced Examination (CAE), and Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE).
(termly courses: 4 hours per week evening, 2 hours per week Saturdays)

Location: Waterloo

Overview:

  • These courses meet the needs of learners who wish to take an internationally-recognised qualification in English Language.
  • The courses can be taken alongside ESOL Skills for Life courses at Level 1 and 2.

Content:

  • The course will develop English language skills including reading, writing, speaking and listening.
  • Students will become familiar with the test format and will develop strategies to help them achieve their goals.
  • There is access to the course Virtual Learning Environment, moodle, to extend their learning and practice beyond the classroom.

Entry Requirements:

  • An assessment of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and an interview with a specialist tutor.
  • Evidence of intermediate or English Language skills.
  • Evidence of existing qualifications from all countries.
  • A commitment to work hard and attend 100% of lessons.
  • A commitment to do homework outside the class.

Assessment:

  • Students will build a portfolio of examination-related tasks.
  • All learners have a Learning Plan and will set targets with their personal tutor.
  • Homework will be set and marked regularly.

Progression Routes:

  • Progression to Higher Education, higher levels of English Language study.
